Comprehensive Independent Homecare Program from Euro-American Connections

Recent revisions made to the Regulations under the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) now require employee-based homecare agencies to pay time-and-a-half overtime to live-in caregivers and caregivers working more than 40 hours per week.

This change in regulations will have a devastating financial impact on seniors and caregivers, and will reduce the level of care provided. Homecare agencies are left with 2 unfortunate options:

1) Raise rates by as much as 50% in order to cover overtime paid to caregivers.
2) Rotate three different live-in caregivers each week for a single live-in assignment to avoid paying overtime wages.

Sadly, either option provides extra, unneeded stress on caregivers and seniors, both financially and emotionally.

Fortunately, Euro-American Connections (EAC) has a solution! We are excited to now offer a Comprehensive Independent Homecare Program (CIHP), that will enable families to hire live-in and certain hourly caregivers without the overtime costs associated with the recent revisions to the FLSA.

Our Comprehensive Independent Homecare Program takes advantage of the individual exemptions from the new FLSA overtime requirements, under which the caregiver is not required to be paid overtime. This allows families to employ a single, affordable live-in caregiver to work seven days a week, and avoid the disruption that three rotating caregivers would cause to the elderly person’s routines and relationships.
