If you were to go through your pantry or cabinets, we’re sure you’d find quite a bit of snacks and ingredients that aren’t so necessary, much less good for you. Thankfully there are quite a bit of healthy alternatives out there that are easy to find at most grocery stores. Get a head- start on a healthier Springtime, take small steps like cleaning out your cabinets and replacing them with healthier snacks, teas, seasonings and more of our favorite below!

Truffle Salt

Sometimes, just adding some salt and pepper just doesn’t do it. Besides great spices and of course, garlic, truffle salt is perfect for anyone who loves the rich flavor of truffles on their own.

Flaxseed

Flaxseeds are high in omega-3, high in lignans (antioxidants and estrogen), and soluble and insoluble fiber.

Studies have been shown that it can reduce risks of cancer, stroke, heart disease and diabetes.

Turmeric

This bright spice can fight inflammation and infection, according to many studies. What does this mean? In addition to cooking with it, or using it to make delicious teas, turmeric may be able to aid in preventing anyone from developing Alzheimer’s and arthritis.

Peanut Butter

While peanut butter may not be appropriate for all seniors (watch out for those dentures), it goes so well with various fruits and makes for great, protein-rich finger sandwiches that you can eat on the run.

Cocoa Roasted Almonds

Almonds are by far one of the healthiest nuts, so whenever you’re craving something sweet, try reaching for a handful of these! They’re much healthier than a handful of nuts covered in creamy milk chocolate and can go well in various dishes too!

Watermelon Seeds

High in protein and very nutty, sprouted and shelled watermelon seeds look a lot like pumpkin seeds (a great alternative), that are simply delicious when tossed in a salad, or yogurt!

Gluten-Free Pasta

While it isn’t necessary for anyone to stick to a completely gluten-free diet if they don’t have celiac disease, it doesn’t hurt to reach for a box of gluten-free pasta once in a while. If you and your loved one enjoy pasta more than once a week, try this lighter option out!

Herbal Tea

While your go-to Lipton teas might be your favorite in the mornings, don’t underestimate the power of all-natural, relaxing herbal teas. Some of our favorite brands include Yogi and Traditional Medicinals, and we recommend the stress relief or bedtime teas to feel extra relaxed.

Bone Borth

A great alternative to chicken stock high in sodium, bone broth can be bought in stores or easily made at home! Nowadays, many meat-flavored stocks are filled with MSG, but bone broth is high in exactly what you need to keep your bones and joints healthy and strong – amino acids and collagen.
