Top 5 Foods to Add to Your Shopping List in 2018! | Euro-American Connections & Homecare

With the coming of the new year, we realize there’s so much talk and news out there about losing weight, improving self-esteem and reducing stress. Between finding new ways to be a and making more time for yourself, in fact, there is no better time to re-think the way you eat and what you are eating.

Check out our list of most nutritious (and delicious) foods to add to your shopping list in 2018!

Nuts

If you enjoy eating various nuts (and come close to eating around 1 oz per day), did you know that you have a lower risk of heart disease and developing certain cancers? Nuts are rich in essential vitamins and minerals, like vitamins B and E, magnesium and fiber. Be mindful of the amounts of nuts you and your client eat, as they are high in fat and calories.

Tip: Stick to almonds, cashews, walnuts, pistachios and try toasting them to bring out all of their fantastic flavors!

Greek yogurt

While yogurt may be one of your and your client’s favorite breakfast foods or snacks, be sure to pay attention to the type of yogurts you’re buying in 2018. Greek yogurt is a much higher quality yogurt product with excellent sources of protein, calcium and potassium. Greek yogurt is actually strained to remove whey, leaving the yogurt creamier and packed with more protein and even contains half the sugar of regular yogurt. Just add some jam or fresh fruit and granola and you’re set!

Tip: One thing we love to do is using greek yogurt in recipes that call for mayo or sour cream. You’ll barely taste the difference!

Mushrooms

Mushrooms are a delicious addition to any meal if you’re a fan. In fact, they may even begin appearing in dishes you’ve never expected in 2018 – like coffee! Mushrooms are a wonderful source of antioxidants, vitamins like B2 and zinc, protein and fiber. It’s a superfood for sure, so whether you’re making mushroom sauces with freshly picked mushroom or trying mushroom- infused products, get creative in finding ways to add it to your favorite meals.

Avocados

Did you know that avocados are actually one of the best “brain boosting” foods in the world? These are fruits that contain vitamin K and folate, which helps protect the brain from inflammation that causes stroke and may lead to improved brain function like memory and concentration. Be mindful of portions, as they do contain high levels of fat, but at the same time don’t shy away from it as it contains healthy fats and contain less sugar and more protein than any other fruit.

Tip: Apart from guacamole, sliced avocado on toast, paired with a sunny-side up egg makes a wholesome, delicious breakfast. You must try it out when you have a chance!

Bone broth

This was definitely a trending food in 2017, and will definitely grow in popularity in 2018! Bone broth is a amazing food known for its healing abilities (literally!) Rich in collagen, amino acids, bone broth is a great substitute for broths used for making soups and anything you usually use chicken or beef stock for. Bone broth not only helps reduce inflammation in the brain, but helps out your gut immensely as well as joint health.
