Whether or not you live alone or with a caregiver, retirement isn’t the end, but a new beginning! Often time, older adults have difficulty planning what they will do with all of the free time. While it may be nice to finally have some downtime, many older adults who are used to working will want to fill up their free time with anything from a new hobby, or even new job! Keeping the mind and body active is the key to living a healthy life, especially as we age, so here are some great ways to making the most of your golden years.

Build Your Dream Home

The spring season is upon us- the best time for spring cleaning and home improvement! According to the US News Report, 36 percent of older adults take on DIY tasks around the home- from gardening to renovating your kitchen. So start that vegetable garden you’ve always wanted! Invite the grandkids over to help paint your living room a bright new shade. There hasn’t been a better time than now to beautify your home and make it the perfect place to start your post-retirement journey.

Start a Business

It’s not uncommon for older adults to seek out exciting job opportunities after they retire, especially if they were devoted to their work or jobs before retirement. Whatever your passion, consider ways to make it into your own business. Whether is be baking or even offering financial advice to your family, there’s plenty of resources out there that will help you run a successful business from the comfort of your home.

Go Back to School

Ever wondered what it would be like to get a second degree? What’s great is that so many colleges and universities nowadays offer discounted college credit for older adults and seniors! 31 percent of working Americans said they look forward to retirement so they can acquire new skills and find interesting classes to help expand their knowledge. This might be a good excuse to take some time to study abroad, and take a course while traveling through Europe. The options are truly endless, and you know what they say – you can never have enough knowledge!

Travel (And Live) Abroad!

Ever wish you could do more than just visit a foreign country- but see what it’s like to live there? There are plenty of travel opportunities that are catered to older adults and seniors, but did you know that you can do much more than just visit a foreign country? Thanks to services like Air BNB (bed and breakfast), you can travel to anyplace in the world and stay at a private home, from a romantic villa in Tuscany to a fancy apartment in the center of London. The best part about retirement is having no limit to how long you can be on vacation, so feel free to take as long as you need to take in the sights and sounds of the world at large.
